Farm Planning Program
Protecting the Environment - Protects your Business
The Environmental Farm Planning (EFP) project has typically been
considered a means for all producers to manage their environmental
risk. The BCLNA has taken this program and tailored it specifically
to nursery growers. It is a voluntary program and completely confidential.
What does the EFP program do for nursery
growers?
Provides free EFP workshops and consultation.
Identifies your strengths and potential risks.
Develops a prioritized action plan.
Demonstrates 'due diligence' and minimizes liability should an incident
occur.
Reduces the need for regulatory action.
One of the major issues that the EFP program deals with is 'invasive
alien species,' such as P. ramorum. There is funding available for
capital cost items you may require to remedy some aspect of your
operation to address P. ramorum.
There are 4 Steps to the program:
1. Attend a workshop.
2. Conduct a risk assessment of your nursery.
3. Complete the workplan to alleviate the identified risks.
4. Implement your plan.
The first three pieces should be done as soon as possible to help
ensure funding required to address issues. There are areas other
than P. ramorum risk management for which you may also be able to
access funds, like fuel storage, pesticide storage, riparian and
ditching concerns, etc. The implementation phase can take up to
four years but there is limited funding available, so you need to
act soon.
Start your step one now, by contacting Hedy
by email or call the
BCLNA: 604-574-7772. We will let you know the meeting times and
dates from which you can choose. Workshops run through the off-seasons.
