We are seeking a highly skilled foreman to join our energetic team.

You must have the following qualifications:

  • Minimum 10 years in landscape construction, with minimum 5 of those years as foreman
  • Horticultural certificate or diploma
  • Ability and experience managing large scale construction projects (budgets over $250,000. $1,000,000 + experience is a huge asset).
  • Ability and experience to manage crews of 10 + people

Sales Representative (Full Time) - Sylvis Career Opportunity

The position of Sales Representative will be responsible for introducing an exciting new fabricated soil, MetroGrow, to the Lower Mainland market. This position involves marketing the value of MetroGrow to clients and developing long term client relationships. The Sales Representative will be responsible for attaining an annual sales target. The Sales Representative reports directly to the Operations Manager.

Responsibilities
You will be involved in a wide range of sales activities with emphasis on the following:

  • Maintain and develop relationships with existing and potential clients.
  • Provide excellent customer service and a willingness to go above and beyond.
  • Manage orders from initial client contact through to delivery of product and follow-up.
  • Communicate client’s needs with SYLVIS staff.
  • Gather market and customer information – develop a system.
  • Develop an annual sales and marketing plan.
  • Participate in the development of sales materials – brochures, newsletters, etc.
  • Prepare presentations, quotes, proposals and sales contracts.
  • Participate in marketing events such as seminars, trade shows and conferences.

Qualifications
The applicant must have:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field (e.g. environmental, soil, agriculture, landscaping, horticulture, biology). Other diplomas may be considered in combination with experience.
  • 3+ years of demonstrated professional sales experience – have developed a sales system.
  • Experience in the fabricated soil, compost or fertilizer industry an asset, product training will be provided.
  • Ability to persuade and influence others with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Work requires significant local travel to clients’ locations. This requires the possession of a valid driver’s license with 5+ years of driving experience.

FIELD LAB TECHNICIAN – Competition Number 09-138R
Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s School of Horticulture is seeking applications for a Field Lab Technician. The position is offered at the Langley Campus. The Horticulture Field Lab includes greenhouses, polyhouses, a container nursery, landscape plantings and a turf management training field facility. Staff and students at the field lab produce greenhouse vegetables, cut flowers, potted crops and bedding plants throughout the year and maintain the landscape and turf field lab reflective of the range of industry standards. These facilities form a core resource for the Horticulture program.

You will be part of a team of staff who support and assist faculty and students by preparing materials and equipment for practical classes and by maintaining the horticulture facilities and crops. Crop maintenance is a key activity through the spring and summer and this position is similar to an assistant grower’s responsibilities. You will be required to maintain crop records. You also will be required to supervise student activities and provide instructional support for faculty during times when classes are in session.

You have a Diploma in Horticulture and at least 2 years of industry experience, a Class 5 Drivers License, and a BC Pesticide Applicators Certificate (or obtain one within 60 days of appointment). Training and experience in production horticulture is preferred. Experience in landscape horticulture or turf management is an asset.

We are looking for personnel to fill a key area of our company:

Field production foreman
Our growing fields encompass approximately 100 acres of calliper shade trees plus smaller b&b evergreen material. This year round job encompasses all aspects of production including planting, pruning, fertilizing, watering, weed control, harvest and shipping. The successful applicant must have a good working knowledge of a wide variety of deciduous and evergreen trees. You will also be involved with scheduling tasks and planning the field production year. This position involves the interaction with Spanish speaking employees, so some Spanish language skills are an asset. The ability to problem solve and prioritize tasks is essential.

We are looking for a motivated individual who is physically fit, likes the outdoors, and working in a team oriented environment. Experience with tractors, excavators, skid steer loaders, tree spades and flat deck trucks are a necessity. Basic knowledge of equipment and some mechanical knowledge is an asset.

The successful applicant should have a minimum of five years of nursery experience with at least three years in the above field. We would be willing to look a someone with less experience who is willing to train into this position.
