The Professional Turf & Reclamation Division within BRETTYOUNG is the fastest growing component of the company, with facilities located across western Canada. We are currently seeking to expand our British Columbia sales force and are accepting applications for a Regional Account Manager.

Working out of your home office, with the support of our head office, the Calmar, Alberta regional office and the Professional Turf & Reclamation sales team, this position manages all facets of the sales territory including identification, development, maintenance and growth of our line of Professional Turf & Reclamation products.

Responsibilities:

  • Business Development
    • In conjunction with the District Sales Manager, set annual sales goals and develop supplemental marketing plan that supports achievement of same
    • Identify and qualify new customers to develop/generate new business
    • Provide product information, product training and sales support to existing and potential customers
    • Liaise with industry contacts by regularly attending provincial association meetings and trade shows to remain current with market trends and occurrences.
  • Administrative
    • Through weekly reporting process, provide market intelligence, customer relations issues and status of accounts receivables to management
    • Collect & manage accounts receivables
    • Manage expenses attentively and report such expenses to management, monthly.
  • Preferred Expertise
    • Post Secondary education in Sales Management or Business Administration
    • 2 years of successful sales and territory management experience
    • Knowledge of or experience with the turf management & Ag sector
    • Effective communication, time & financial management skills, complemented with innate customer and team oriented approach to doing business
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite of products, possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license and maintains the flexibility and stamina to travel liberally.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced landscape professional to curate some of the city’s premier outdoor spaces. We are looking for a candidate to excel in a leadership position of considerable responsibility.

RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP

  • Provide leadership to a high performance maintenance business
  • Supervise, direct and train maintenance crew
  • Identify and consistently exceed client expectations
  • Think/plan ahead and proactively identify property deficiencies – and provide solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and to solve problems
  • Ability to follow-through

  • Take ownership of the garden’s success

OPERATIONS

  • Develop a comprehensive maintenance plan to ensure superior softscape/hardscape maintenance on properties of various sizes.
  • Develop weekly workplan and provide detailed outline of tasks for each week.
  • Supervise and monitor quality across all aspects of maintenance
  • Complete required internal and external paperwork including site reports, weekly workplan, code invoices, machine and/or tool maintenance reports and inventory
  • Maintain and service equipment for peak performance and longevity

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

Specialized skills in:

  • complete turf maintenance
  • maintaining of perennial/shrub beds
  • pruning, cleaning and fertilizing of hedges
  • seasonal pruning of shrubs and trees
  • checking and adjusting irrigation for optimal coverage
  • testing and maintaining PH and nutrient levels with knowledge of fertilizers
  • fruit/vegetable care and organic turf/soil management is an asset
  • Minimum 5 years experience in landscape maintenance
  • Diploma or certificate in horticulture – or equivalent training and experience
  • Valid BC driver's license
  • Desires and has ability to work outside in all weather conditions

RESPONSIBILITIES

LEADERSHIP

  • Provide leadership for all our plant sourcing, ordering and supply needs
  • Supervise, direct and train crew in planting operations
  • Demonstrated ability to form strong relationships with designers, growers, nurseries and transporters
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and solve problems
  • Proactively recognizes design needs or deficiencies – and provide solutions

OPERATIONS

  • Accurately and effectively manage timely sourcing and transporting of high quality plant material from plant lists
  • Coordinate, direct and supervise planting operations of feature trees, shrubs, container stock etc.
  • Layout plant material on site and execute planting
  • Communicate and coordinate effectively with project managers, construction teams and designers
  • Identify construction team needs and constraints and schedule accordingly
  • Proactively source the best quality feature trees, shrubs, container stock, perennials and any other plant material needs
  • Monitor quality of material shipped and received
  • Manage and archive relevant images and documentation
  • Complete required internal and external paperwork
  • Seasonal travel to growers and nurseries for plant selection

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate or diploma in horticulture, garden design, or landscape design – or equivalent training and experience
  • Knowledge of proper plant nutritional requirements and ability to amend growing medium accordingly
  • Understanding of importing requirements/restrictions and importing permit process
  • Ability to meet needs of several projects/teams
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate proactively with clients, consultants and suppliers
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to develop planting layout/design and lists for high-end residential properties is an asset
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and photo layout application
  • Desires and has ability to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Valid BC driver's license
